Warhol & Subsequent Effects

Located in a charmingly remodelled former industrial building in the Dansaert district in the heart of Brussels, the Walter Vanhaerents contemporary art collection is presented in biannual exhibitions on three floors.

The Vanhaerents Art Collection has been developing since the mid 1970s. What originally began as a fascination with film, in particular Andy Warhol’s ‘Lonesome Cowboys‘ and ‘Sleep‘, Walter Vanhaerents quickly started collecting iconic artists such as Bruce Naumann, Matthew Barney or Cindy Sherman.

Today the collection has grown into a multifaceted hidden treasure containing some of the most relevant established artists of modern day, as well as emerging artist of the last decades.

My principle in collecting contemporary art is to not go back in time, even if I have missed important artists’ works from the seventies or the eighties. I make myself look to the future, not at the past. I want to make my choices now, not from yesterday.
