In 2007 Harald Falckenberg acquired one of the buildings and converted it into a spacious exhibition hall for his collection with the help of Berlin-based architect, Roger Bundschuh.

From the beginning of 2011 the Falckenberg Collection belongs to the Deichtorhallen Hamburg, one of Europe’s largest exhibition centers for contemporary art and photography. Under the aegis of artistic director Dr. Dirk Luckow the exhibition policy for the Falckenberg Collection will be supplemented to include new aspects.

The Falckenberg Collection itself includes around 2 000 works of contemporary art, with the emphasis on German and American contemporary art from the last thirty years. The Falckenberg Collection offers a panoramic view of this strand of contemporary art, with its strong roots in counter culture.

Some of the arrtists included in the Falckenberg Collection are Werner Büttner, Georg Herold, Martin Kippenberger, Albert Oehlen, Andreas Slominski,John Bock, Christian Jankowski, Jonathan Meese, Sarah Lucas and Daniel Richter, as well as Vito Acconci, Richard Artschwager, John Baldessari, Mike Kelley, Paul McCarthy, Raymond Pettibon and Richard Prince.
