With several Online Exhibitions of the Hildebrand Collection on IC, the current temporary hang at the collection’s ‘G2 Kunsthalle’ space explores an apt Beuys inspired art-life relationship.

Also on view in Leipzig, are works installed in a permanent capacity. This creates a foundation for the temporary exhibitions, which enable a variety of dialogues to be explored, birthed from the Hildebrand Collection.

Now with it’s thirteenth rotation, there are currently works from the collection by Judith Bernstein, Paul Czerlitzki, Jose Dávila, Grit Hachmeister, Petrit Halilaj, Sven Johne, Hannah Levy, Matt Mullican, Tal R, David Renggli, Nora Turato and Stefan Vogel.

Art is not a self-contained product or event, divorced from the particulars of everyday life and independent of its social circumstances. Art, whichever form it takes, not only bears an intellectual relation to reality, it is moulded in an active engagement with the world. Joseph Beuys put it succinctly when he called for the union of art and life. Ever since humans, more than 40,000 years ago, produced the first cave paintings, using colours and materials to fashion manifestations inspired by reality has been a foundational principle of human expression. The creative process in which a work comes into being opens up a different access to things that might otherwise remain closed and obscure to us. The exhibition gathers a selection of works in a wide variety of media by German and international artists from the Hildebrand Collection. A sustained reflection on their specific relation to the world yields a broad range of nuanced answers.

Here in this Online Exhibition, we present artworks and installation views from “G2 #13 – Wege zur Welt / Connections To The World” at the G2 Kunsthalle on view 30 May – 15 September 2019.
