Exhibitions of Christian Pfaff
When in walked into the „Kunstsalon 2008“-exhibition in Berlin i was deeply impressed by the monumental work/installation of Leo Stern. A dark room filled with sculptures of oversized ants. „Das Volk“ (People) he named his work and it struck me by the symmetry and this tensions between the collective and individual. Some days later at a birthday party i saw an invitation card of Leo Stern pinned to the wall, just to find out that he was there. We had a long talk and i told him about Independent Collectors as a good platform to introduce his work. So – even if i don't owe one of Leo's work i like to show some of this „Das Volk“-Works and recommend his website http://www.dasvolk.com
Together with the artists Christiane Biletzki, Olaf Jacobson an Daniel Vogler i curated the exhibtion „Trophies, collections and relics“ („Trophäen, Sammlungen und Reliqien“). In focus were themes like strange passion, the lust for collectibles or the need for hunting trophies. Every artist showed his or her interpretation. Christiane Biletzki from Berlin presented stamp-looking like mini adverts, Olaf Jacobson stole the complete collection of his son's „He-Man“-Army, Daniel Vogler created insects made from paper and pinned them with needles in boxes and i went „on hunt“ in restaurants and shops to get in hold of those fascinating plastic trophies. At the moment are only pictures of those available.
Manuel Osterholt a.k.a.. SuperBlast lives and works as a freelance graphic designer in Berlin. He puts his main emphases on graphic art, illustration and typography. His focus lies on the interface between art and commerce. Already in early years his artwork got seminally influenced by Hip Hop, Punk Rock, Skateboard and Comic culture. The interest in different international forms of culture as well as diverse sub-cultural influences add an exceptional perspective to his works.
The Heidelberg-born SuperBlast released lately his signature TRUTH PAINT spraycan as a 500 pieces limited run, in blue. I like the style and attitude.

Camera Obscura 2005/1-Inf is a worldwide – let's say network art project – in which you auction one shot a twin-holed Camera Obscura by ebay. The highest bidders in each case receive one after the camera which is loaded with a piece of unexposed sheet of b/w film. The first bidder takes one picture and then mails it to the person who auctioned the other pinhole of the camera who will do the same. Because of the minimal distance between the two holes the two photos overlap partly, so that a joint picture emerges, created by two people in different parts of the world. In the course of time a sort of photographic global puzzle will emerge - one continuous series of parallel exposures. All participants will receive by post an actual sized print of the partially superimposed photo which they made. At a later date the cameras will be displayed together with the parallel exposures in a permanent exhibition in the Galerie Merid in Stuttgart. They will also be published on the website http://www.galerie-merid.com
Below you'll see my collaborative work with the canadian artist Kathy Kinakin from Vancouver, Canada.
„4000“ (Thomas Egeler) is one of my favourite artists. He is a manic worker and puts out an enormous amount of artworks. Together with a handful of artist friends he invented in the late 80's „Cheap Art“, a movement towards the „untrained public“ who deserves original art (fair priced, not concept overloaded, with lots of humour involved). 4000 works in a „healthy distance“ to the art market, refuses to do someone else's tedious jobs e.g. being used for sponsoring etc. 4000 is best in giving great titles to his works, that cast a critical but often laughing eye to contemporary contexts. 4000 is smart, 4000 is pop, 4000 is 4000.
These works on paper belong to a neverending series about famous german Beck's Beer. Have fun!
The nine commandments of the Hamburg based artist group SUDDEN ART. The group consists of an ever changing number of interdisciplinary artists who stay anonymous, don't sign and work theme based. The nine commandments are their manifesto. Nine works in same size but different materials that show their approach to art.
A little compilation of different artworks collected over the years
