Editions of artworks have been around for centuries and can be traced back to the works by the likes of Dürer or Hokusai.
Amsterdam-based collector Frans Oomen has developed a real passion for editions. In fact his entire collection of contemporary art is based on them. His careful selection of works demonstrates that editions are not to be considered mere copies but can also be seen as hand made pieces of individually re-worked objects and thus are unique in their own right.
Oomen’s collection of editions comes in all shapes and sizes ranging from bronze to ceramics to ready-mades, from photography to painting and assemblages. It hosts objects from renowned artists such as Nan Goldin, Richard Prince, Jeff Koons, Rob Pruitt, Jannis Kounellis, Franz West, Andres Serrano, Hermann Nitsch, Chris Offili, Shirin Neshat, but also by young talent like Adam Pendleton, Sean Landers, Su Tomesen and Ragnar Kjartansson.
On the occasion of the exhibition “Radical Collecting“ at C&H art space Amsterdam, which exhibits the most radical works from his collection, Oomen shares with us a selection of works on IC.
