The Kienbaum Collection
Where Art Meets the Workplace

Since the 1970s, entrepreneur Jochen Kienbaum has built an impressive collection of contemporary art, now comprising around 1,000 works. Featuring paintings, sculptures, objects, and works on paper, the collection brings together European and American artists with a focus on color and abstraction. To secure its future, the collection has been transferred to a partnership with his children, ensuring its continued development across generations.

What makes the Kienbaum Collection truly special is its setting: rather than being tucked away in a museum or private gallery, it is integrated into the everyday working environment of Kienbaum Consultants International GmbH. Spread across eight locations in major German cities and Vienna, this private collection creates a distinctive and recognizable atmosphere in the office spaces. Employees and visitors alike encounter works by artists such as Günther Förg, Bernard Frize, Julia Gruner, Imi Knoebel, Jonathan Lasker, Fabián Marcaccio, Richard Allan Morris, Carl Ostendarp, David Reed, Jorinde Voigt, and Birgit Werres as part of their daily routines. The presence of art in the workplace fosters a creative atmosphere, inspires new perspectives, and enriches the company’s culture.

For many, this is a chance to experience contemporary art in a natural, everyday setting—no museum visit required. The collection encourages curiosity, sparks conversation, and seamlessly integrates art into daily life. To make the artworks even more accessible, employees are regularly invited to webinars and guided tours of the collection. Moreover, exhibitions at the headquarters are opened with artist talks or introductory sessions—events held during working hours for employees and are open to the wider public as well. Beyond the office, the collection reaches a broader audience through museum and institutional loans. A dedicated focus on artists' publications has even led to the creation of the Kienbaum Artists' Books edition. These books also serve as gifts for clients and partners, further strengthening the dialogue between art and the corporate world.
