Château La Coste
Explore an impressive collection of monumental sculptures set in beautiful natural surroundings

When the Irish businessman Paddy McKillen acquired the idyllic winery Château La Coste 24 years ago, the idea arose to forge a creative space that would bring together artists and architects in the scenic surroundings of Luberon. Since 2011, the 200-hectare site has been open to art lovers, who should allow at least two hours for a walking tour of the property's vineyards, olive groves, and woods. Japanese architect Tadao Ando designed the visitor center at the site's entrance, which is guarded by a large, water-dwelling bronze spider by Louise Bourgeois. Other highlights include site-specific works by Tracey Emin, Liam Gillick, Richard Serra, and Franz West. In addition, temporary exhibitions are programmed in architectural pavilions designed by Renzo Piano, Richard Rogers, Oscar Niemeyer, and Jean-Michel Wilmotte. A luxury hotel and six different restaurants offer further reasons to stay a while.

Situated in one of the oldest winemaking regions of France, between the historic city of Aix-en-Provence and the Luberon National Park, Château La Coste is a vineyard where wine, art and architecture co-exist in harmony. Since it opened to the public in 2011, Château La Coste invites visitors to discover over forty major works of contemporary art installed in the open air and five gallery spaces across the 500-acre site.
Each year artists and architects are invite d to visit the domain and discover the unique beauty of this Provençal landscape, with its famed cypresses, stone pines, olive trees and ancient oaks. They are given the freedom to create a site- specific work in an area of the site that inspires them, so Château La Coste continues to evolve as new projects and installations are developed.

In summer 2025, Château La Coste will host a remarkable series of exhibitions featuring renowned artists such as Sophie Calle, Jean Pigozzi, and Ha Chong Hyun.
