In 2017 the Museum Folkwang exhibited works from Venice’s Pinault Collecting in “Dancing with Myself”.
“Dancing with Myself” is a collaboration between the Museum Folkwang and the Pinault Collection, and takes the audience on a journey through art history of the last fifty years, displaying works that are poetic as they are playful. The common thread among the works in “Dancing with Myself” is that the artists themselves play a major part in the show. Drawing from their bodies, identities and personal stories, the exhibition goes further than the conventional “self-portrait”, and moves into the realm of personality and attitude.
The exhibition features work from Claude Cahun, Maurizio Cattelan, Urs Fischer, Gilbert & George, Nan Goldin, Félix González-Torres, Rodney Graham, Steve McQueen, Boris Mikhaïlov, Helmut Newton, Roman Opalka, Charles Ray, Ulrike Rosenbach, Cindy Sherman and Jo Spence to name a few. Here, we show installation views from “Dancing with Myself” at Museum Folkwang.
