Featuring forty-three artists, “Life and Dreams” showcases a wide range of groundbreaking photography and media art produced by internationally recognized Chinese contemporary artists.
The first extensive exhibition of works by Chinese artists represented in The Walther Collection, “Life and Dreams: Contemporary Chinese Photography and Media Art” features work by renowned figures such as Yang Fudong, Zhang Peili, Ai Weiwei, Song Dong, Cao Fei, and Zhang Huan, as well as showcasing newer positions from innovative young artists such as Sun Xun, and Lu Yang.
Curated by Christopher Phillips, “Life and Dreams” provides an up-to-the-minute account of the main directions and key achievements of contemporary Chinese photography and media art during over the last three decades through showing visually inventive and emotionally stimulating artworks. The exhibition also investigates how photographic works have captured the artists’ responses to the sweeping social and economic changes that have fundamentally altered the face of China’s cities and transformed the fabric of everyday life.
In their third online exhibition on IC, we present a selection of works from the exhibition “Life and Dreams: Contemporary Chinese Photography and Media Art” as well as installation views from inside the show.
