“Better to have the absolute masterpiece of a minor artist, than a minor work of a great artist” is the ambitious approach of Italian lawyer and art collector Giuseppe Iannaccone.
Since the late 1980s Iannaccone started to set up a collection of roughly 200 contemporary works by upcoming international artists which are displayed in rotation in his Milan office. When buying art, Iannaccone is “searching for strong feelings of humanity within paintings, sculptures and drawings.” Having no preferred medium that would limit his search, his collection contains drawings and paintings by the likes of Raqib Shaw, Micheal Borremans, Nicole Eisenman, Shirin Neshat and Pietro Roccasalva e Imran Qureshi as well as sculptures by Marc Quinn, Banksy, Grayson Perry, Don Brown, Nathan Mabry and Gilliam Wearing. Furthermore, Iannaccone started to extend his collection by buying video art by Nathalie Djurberg, Andrian Paci and Regina Jose Galindo. In the last few years, the charm of distant cultures brought the collector to travel to India and Iran in the pursuit of originality in today’s globalized art world.
