Transposing Narratives
With its dual focus on art and design, the Colección Contemporánea is the latest addition to the private museum community in Mexico City.
Owned by collector and entrepreneur Gina Diez-Barroso de Franklin, the space opened its doors in late 2015, with half of the museum housing Diez-Barroso’s private collection that features artists such as Robert Indiana, Liu Bolin, Marcus Lyon and Lu Shengzhong to name a few, with the other half hosting temporary exhibitions.
The inaugural exhibition “Transposing Narratives” at Colección Contemporánea aims to engage and transcend its physical space, as well as express contemporary art in an outspoken and provocative manner. Diez-Barroso’s thought process behind the selection was the hope to start a dialogue with every visitor to the exhibition, wanting to make a hub of inspiration, an escape from city life, a space of solitude, an area of meditation right in the centre of Mexico City.
