THE BMW ART GUIDE BY INDEPENDENT COLLECTORS is your go-to guide to privately built yet publicly accessible collections of contemporary art. The very first of its kind, this guide allows you to personally visit havens of contemporary art that you would not know to exist.
Our project began in 2012 as an ambitious task, to gather a worldwide list of private contemporary art collections, which included several that had never before opened their doors. This resulted in a pocket-sized travel guide that would radically increase access to privately owned art. This initiative now inspires many collectors to share their art filled personal residences. In collaboration with our long-term partner BMW, a new edition of the Art Guide is published each year.
The current 7th edition presents 304 collections of contemporary art — featuring large and small, famous and the relatively unknown. Succinct portraits, written by our team of international authors and art journalists, take the reader to 224 cities across 51 countries, often to regions that are off the beaten path.
